It's that time of year again — time to get in a giving mood!
I love the holidays for a lot of reasons — putting up a Christmas tree, big meals with family, watching “Love Actually,” and those first few snowfalls (the subsequent ones… not so much).
And I also love going shopping for all my loved ones. For me, the holidays are definitely more about the joy of giving than receiving. Which is probably why I have been involved with for four years now.
Back in 2008, Passports With Purpose (PWP) was begun by four Seattle-based travel bloggers as a way to build community and attempt to give back to the places that we, as travelers, visit. Since then, travel bloggers have embraced the fundraiser, raising hundreds of thousands of dollars for causes around the world. In the past, PwP has raised money to build schools in Cambodia and Mali, a village in rural India, libraries in Zambia, a clean-water wells in Haiti.
This year, the beneficiary is Sustainable Harvest International.
Funds raised help family farmers in Honduras not only grow their own food, but to understand how to do so in a way that protects the ecosystems they live in and prevent tropical deforestation. Sustainable Harvest can help one family for five years with every $5,000 raised.
I'm really excited about once again being involved in this fantastic initiative. Read on to learn how you, too, can take part in Passports With Purpose (and, in the process, be entered to win some AMAZING prizes!).
How PwP Works
For the past few months, travel bloggers, advertisers and sponsors have been gearing up to help out with the this year’s Passports with Purpose fundraiser. Dozens of have been getting ready to blog about PwP, and have worked hard to procure prizes that will be given away to lucky donors.
That’s right — if you , not only can you feel good about giving, but you will also be in the running to win some sweet prizes. These prizes range from travel gear to hotel stays to amazing tours all over the world. (You can .)
Beginning TODAY (December 2), you can start making donations to Passports With Purpose.
Then, for each $10 that you donate, you will be entered to win a prize of your choice. If you donate more than $10, your chances of winning prizes will only increase — you get one entry for each increment of $10 you donate (so if you donate $30, you get 3 entries).
My PwP Prize Sponsor
Throughout the past few months, I've been doing some accessory reviews and giveaways on my site. You've seemed to really enjoy these (especially the ladies), so I reached out to one of my favorite companies that I've worked with and asked them to sponsor my PwP prize.
I've teamed up with to give away an AWESOME travel bracelet. You can read my El Camino review to learn more, but basically these are charm bracelets — but for the travel-obsessed. (Guys, this would make a great gift for a travel-loving girlfriend! And ladies, these are a super cute — and super unique — accessory!)
The winner of this specific prize will receive:
- One bracelet (in your choice of color)
- 4 country steps (metal charms with country names on them)
- 3 small (city) steps
- 2 region steps (colorful glass beads)
- 2 custom steps
I cannot recommend highly enough and entering to win this great prize from El Camino! All you have to do is select this prize while donating in order to be entered to win.
*Note, though, that you do not have to donate to win this specific prize if you don’t want to. There are TONS of to choose from, too!
