Welcome to the newest monthly feature on A Akatuki5! It’s been (very creatively) named “Stuff You Should Know About” and will basically just be a collection of travel news, tips, photos, and other odds and ends that don’t really fit in anywhere else but that I still really want to share with you.

Random travel news

Cheaper kiwi dollar

If you've ever dreamt of visiting New Zealand (and really, who hasn't?), now is the time to go. The value of the New Zealand dollar is at a right now – which isn't really great for kiwis, but is pretty great news for any potential tourists!

Visit “The Wall” in Northern Ireland?

Okay, if hobbits in Middle-Earth don't do it for you, how about the Night's Watch from Game of Thrones? The popular HBO TV show is currently filming its next season in Northern Ireland, where local councilors are petitioning for the set of The Wall to be as a tourism attraction after filming ends. I'd be all for it (assuming that a still-living Jon Snow was included!).

Cool travel app/website of the month

I get a lot of emails every week — sometimes every day — about new travel apps and websites. I don’t write reviews very often about apps/websites (only the ones I really, really love), but some of them are still worth mentioning!

This month, check out:

Okay, okay. So Snapchat isn't new. BUT, many people only associate the social media app with teenagers sending inappropriate photos to one another – and it's quickly becoming so much more than that.

As my friend , Snapchat is becoming a great tool for getting a more personal look into the lives of people you might follow elsewhere online (like travel bloggers, hint hint!). I've personally been using Snapchat more to share bits of my day to day life, as well as quick photos and video clips from my travels and adventures. I like it because it's immediate and you're not *supposed* to worry about editing or making your snaps perfect.

If you're on Snapchat, feel free to give me a follow – I'm dangerousbiz over there!

You should pack this

Each month, I’ll feature one or two of my packing must-haves. This month, Im recommending:

Whether you're going to be staying in hostels, camping, or taking a trip to the beach, one thing I almost always have packed in my bag is a . Not only is a microfiber towel handy to have, but these towels are also lightweight and easily packable. And, oh yeah, there's that part where they dry faster than normal towels!

Not every travel situation will require you to bring your own towel, of course. But if you DO have to pack your own (or if you just like to have a back-up that can also double as a small blanket), then I highly recommend a !

What I’m reading right now

Lastly, I love to read and am making a goal of reading MORE in 2015. Here’s what I’m currently reading:

Years ago, when I first started travel blogging, I began reading a handful of other travel blogs. Some were about New Zealand. Some were written by fellow solo female travelers. And one was written by a British girl named Lauren who described herself as a “walking disaster.”

Lauren's blog, Never-Ending Footsteps, soon became one of my favorites. I loved checking in multiples times per week to read about her misadventures, and could empathize with her past struggles with crippling anxiety.

And now Lauren has written a BOOK! A real, bonafide, published book. If you love a good dose of (mis)adventure, self-deprecating humor, and watching travel truly transform someone's life, then you'll want to pick up . I'm halfway through it already, and it's a really good, funny read.

That’s it for this month’s edition of “Stuff You Should Know About!” Which section was your favorite this month?
